Financial Controller   |   Job Description

Position Summary

Our client, a leading consulting company within the environmental stewardship industry is searching for a Financial Controller to provide financial support and services to the Company within both Canadian and USA operations, including financial services to an external corporation as part of a contracted services contract.  This upper management position is accountable to the Company’s International parent company by providing timely financial reports and analyses.  The position provides oversight and support to the Company’s outsourced service providers to ensure reported financial results are accurate and complete.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly financial statements, ensuring that financial transactions are complete
  • Interface with Manitoba operations staff responsible for inventories and shipments and all activities affecting the financial statements.
  • Participate and present financial results at quarterly audit committee meetings. Key interface with external auditors on annual audit matters and documentation.
  • Oversee and key interface with external organization responsible for outsourced financial services for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and monthly financial statement reporting.
  • Key interface with external auditors on annual audit matters and documentation.
  • Presentation of financial results to senior management and to the Board of Directors.
  • Oversee and key interface with external organization responsible for the bi-weekly payroll for Canadian and USA operations; reconciliation of payroll accounts; monthly remittances of benefits and RRSP contributions; issue annual T4 and W2 slips and related reconciliations.
  • Manage monthly client invoicing and address any related collection activities.
  • Set-up, implementation and maintenance of budget control systems. Prepare annual budgets, cash flow forecasts and rolling 12-month forecasts.
  • Manage and coordinate all inter company transactions and reporting
  • Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations and year-end continuity schedules
  • Manage expense report and timesheet systems
  • Daily cash management including bank reconciliations and credit line monitoring

  • Supervision of direct reports
  • Interface with external organization performing outsourced finance duties
  • Responsible for time management system processes and billing functions

Credentials & Attributes

  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in a corporate setting primarily performing full-cycle accounting and consulting;
  • A post-secondary education focused in accounting and/or an accounting designation will be considered an asset (CPA, CMA, CGA, CA)
  • Hands-on experience with Word, Excel and accounting software
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all areas of work
  • Strong communication skills, professional, business-like demeanor

Salary range, dependent on candidate experience and credentials: $65k to $85k.
