Internal Accountant  |  Job Description

Our client, a leader in the construction/masonry industry, is hiring an experienced and detail-oriented Internal Accountant.  Due to the Company’s changing personnel requirements, an immediate opportunity is available for the right person.  The role of the Internal Accountant is integral to the overall functionality and efficiency of the Company.  Reporting directly to the President of the Company, the Internal Accountant will be an active member of the team, primarily responsible for the tasks as outlined below.

Accounting Responsibilities

  • Full cycle accounting using Sage 100;
  • Weekly, monthly and periodic financial reporting and analysis;
  • Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Collections;
  • Data entry;
  • Bank and credit card reconciliations;
  • Preparation of payroll for all staff;
  • Preparation and filing of GST, PST and Payroll Remittance;
  • Group benefit and WCB management;
  • Invoicing;
  • Directly responsible for all aspects of accounting and financial reporting internally and to external accountant;
  • Preparation of data file and records for year-end external accountant;
  • Job cost tracking/reporting and ensuring staff follow accounting processes and policies.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintaining office supplies as required;
  • Administer company benefit program;
  • Statutory declarations to customers and submitting proof of insurance etc.;
  • Hiring foreign workers;
  • Organizing company events;
  • Other internal duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in project accounting; preference will be given to candidates with similar experience;
  • Strong understanding of accounting software and use of all modules including job costing, payroll, AR and AP;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently with no supervision;
  • Previous experience processing payroll, preparing government remittances, ROE’s etc.;
  • Confident, assertive, mature and reliable.

Position Details

  • Full time, Monday to Friday with the occasional requirement for additional time depending on projects and workload;
  • Criminal record check documentation required;
  • Salary will be negotiable based on experience and credentials.
