Tax Associate


Our client, a Winnipeg based accounting firm, offering services to small to medium sized businesses, is looking for a Tax Associate to join their growing team! This position will be assist in the preparation of tax returns in accordance with professional standards, company standards, reasonableness, accounting standards & tax legislation in a variety of capacities. Maintaining a positive relationship with shareholders, clients and the team.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

· Preparation of the work of the Tax Division, including:

o Tax planning,

o Tax research and review of personal tax returns (compliance),

o Preparation of trust returns.

· Training of team members, where applicable.

· Taking ownership of the client; becoming the first contact with the client.

· Maintaining positive relationships with the team and clients.

· Strict confidentiality of client affairs.

· Reporting issues, concerns, and results to the owners on a timely basis regarding the Tax Division and process development.

· Resolution and completion of review notes prepared by Financial Services Managers.

· Supporting Financial Services Managers to solve issues raised, where necessary.

· Maintaining positive relationships with clients, employees, contract employees, owners, and all other stakeholders.

· T1 preparation as needed.

· T4 & T5 preparation as needed.

· Upholding a strict level of confidentiality regarding client affairs.


· 1-2 years of experience, having hands-on public practice experience in preparation of files for accounting, corporation tax, & personal tax for small to mid-sized clients.

  • CPA designation or in the process of obtaining designation.

· Solid knowledge of accounting & GAAP.

· IT skills – Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Outlook), CaseWare, Profile, TaxPrep, Jazz-It.

  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and efficiency.

· Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, electronic).

· A positive attitude with a desire to exceed expectations.

· Handling sensitive information while maintaining a strong level of confidentially.

· Display a consistent positive attitude, respect, & courtesy to all stakeholders.

· Ability to maintain strong client relationships.

· Ability to work independently and meet projected deadlines.

· Excellent time management skills (organization & prioritization).

· Ability to co-ordinate multiple tasks.
