Finance Administrative Assistant

Position Summary

F.H. Black & Company is recruiting for a Finance Administrative Assistant on behalf of our client, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Secretariat Inc. Under the direction of the Director of Finance and Finance Controller the incumbent is responsible for a wide range of financial functions including the responsibilities related to administrative support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to internal and external inquires in a pleasant, and professional manner.
  • Maintain on going communication with financial staff to ensure consistency, and accuracies’ including verification and or compliance on financial transactions.
  • Develop and maintain an easy access filing system for all filling related to accounts payable, supplier agreements and/or contracts.
  • Ensure invoices are reviewed, assessed, paid in a timely manner and documented for proper tracking and to ensure elimination of duplicate payments.
  • Process cheques and travel requisitions according to the timeframe indicated in the financial policy manual.
  • Coding and entering financial information into Excel spreadsheets.
  • Respond and adhere to financial directives provided by the Director of Finance and the Financial Controller.
  • Participates in regular supervision with the department Supervisor, including an annual performance review.
  • Participates in all staff meetings.
  • Participates in appropriate staff development opportunities and engages in professional development activities that relate directly to job performance.
  • Represents the organization both formally and informally in a professional manner and adheres to standards of professional conduct consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Process all the above tasks in the context of contributing to positive moral and relationships.
  • Be available to provide administrative support when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Graduate from a recognized Accounting or Business Administration program.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Excellent knowledge of computer accounting packages using Sage, Accpac General Ledger, Accpac Accounts Payable, Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Excellent cross-cultural skills to work in a First Nations environment.
  • Fluency in a First Nations Language is considered an asset.
  • Must be able to think analytically and strategically.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative in completing assigned tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work co-operatively as a part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, and of First Nations and First Nations organizations in Manitoba.
  • Experience working in Communications with First Nations or First Nations organizations in Manitoba or in other regions.
  • Adhere to AMC policies and procedures with specific attention to attendance, and professional ethics.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Clear Child Abuse Checks.
  • Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and vehicle.
  • Work flexible hours and travel upon request.
