Construction Supervisor
Overview
We have partnered with a local Winnipeg based business that provides construction services to residential and commercial buildings to assist in the search of a new Construction Supervisor to lead their
growing Construction department. The Construction Supervisor is responsible for 3 key areas to support the team’s progression including department operations, financial management and human resources.
This individual will be required to effectively manage site operations, track and maintain expenses and budget progress and work with the HR Coordinator to recruit and train new employees. In additional to their team management, the successful candidate must have a high regard for customer service, adopting the necessary safety measures on site and implement all Insurance Company Protocols.
An ideal candidate for this position would possess a strong technical understanding of construction and restoration work. We need a driven leader that looks to refine processes on the go and enjoys working with a team of dedicated professionals to ensure customers come first and that a high standard is set for the quality of work performed every time.
Responsibilities
Department Operations & Work Order/Schedule Management
- Serve as the subject matter expert on construction projects for all stakeholders, providing guidance and mentorship to the teams as required
- Review work order details utilizing the project software to gain a thorough understanding of the job scope and job requirements and make recommendations for improvements (as required)
- Perform an initial site visit with the Project Manager for all complex rebuilds or large losses
- Coordinate & schedule Trades/Carpenters in a timely manner for all rebuild work orders
- Allocate Trades/Carpenters and resources based on work order requirements ensuring team size and skillset are appropriate to complete the project efficiently
- Schedule Trades/Carpenters effectively using the scheduling software to ensure that all employees receive full time hours and provide meaningful work minimizing down time between projects
- Ensure work orders are reviewed, scheduled and confirmed utilizing the project software within 24 hours of the request
- Regularly communicate department capacity and current lead times for scheduling new work orders
- Daily communication and updating the progress of projects utilizing the company softwares
- Daily follow up with Trades/Carpenters to ensure job requirements are being met, timelines are achievable and resources & materials are available
- Provide regular updates and uploads to the company scheduling and estimating softwares, including site inspection photos and notes and follow ups
- Conduct site visits, ensuring company and insurance company policies and procedures are followed
- Oversee and manage all equipment & material warehouse levels & reorders
- Maintains existing construction supplies stored in the facility and manages fulfillment orders
- Act as a resource for all Trades/Carpenters with respect to training, troubleshooting and problem solving for construction projects
- Investigate and address all customer complaints promptly and professionally
- Support the development of departmental procedures and regularly audit them for effectiveness
- On-site Management of Large Losses
Financial Management
- Regularly review job costs to ensure projects are within the budget/reserve provided and alert the team immediately, should there be any deviations from these budgets
- Regularly review job margins and develop strategies to improve overall profitability
- Perform post-mortems on low margins jobs and develop corrective actions to improve profitability for future jobs
- Daily review and approval all trades timesheets
- Regularly review stock material prices and make recommendations on adding or removing items from inventory based on department needs
- Quarterly inventory reconciliation
Human Resources
- Work with the Management Team and HR Coordinator to oversee department capacity and develop a hiring strategy for the recruitment of new trades as required
- Conduct interviews for potential hires alongside the HR Coordinator
- Thorough understanding of each employee’s skillsets, strengths and weaknesses providing feedback and mentorship to foster individual growth
- Work with the Training & Safety Officer to develop an employee training plan for all new hires
- Performance management of direct reports with respect to safety, HR (attendance, conduct, etc.), workmanship and customer service
- Conduct bi-weekly meetings to review safety concerns, engaging team members to participate and host topics of interest
- Perform disciplinary meetings, document & administer corrective actions
- Conduct performance reviews for all direct reports (3 months & 1 year)
- Ongoing training and coaching of processes and procedures with all Trades/Carpenters
- Periodic review of the company GPS to ensure Trades/Carpenters are not abusing company time or vehicle privileges and are adhering to all traffic laws
