Position Overview

We have partnered with a local landscaping firm to assist in the search for new Carpenters to join their growing team! The Carpenters will be joining our clients’ landscape construction division.

Our client is an award-winning design, build and maintenance landscape company completing both residential and commercial work. While they specialize in luxury, resort style residential outdoor spaces, they complete projects both large and small in the residential and commercial sectors. Our client has created a work environment that promotes the development of long-term employees by offering continued education industry programs, company profit sharing, and quarterly company events. They currently employ a staff of 50, offering a large variety of services consisting of design, construction, and maintenance on a year-round basis for outdoor landscape spaces.

Responsibilities & Duties:

As a Carpenter, you will participate in an efficient and fun project site environment working towards achieving daily and weekly goals. You will work closely with our current foremen, skilled labourers, and project managers to install and maintain high quality, award winning, outdoor spaces through-out Winnipeg and surrounding areas. Our ideal candidates will not only be skilled at their craft but enjoy using equipment on site, working with their hands in a physically demanding environment, and participating in a fun, engaging work experience. You will work hard, while having fun, to build some of the most unique, challenging and impressive landscapes in Manitoba.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in the construction of various elements of a landscape construction directly related to carpentry such as decking, fencing, accessory structure construction, outdoor kitchens, etc.
  • Take direction and provide feedback.
  • Work a physically demanding job for 10 hours daily.
  • Independently solve problems within a team-based environment.
  • Problem solves daily within all aspects of day-to-day operations.
  • Follow all appropriate safety protocols.
  • Read and comprehend site plans written in English.
  • Seasonal hours: 40 hours/week in the winter months; 50 hours in the summer months
  • Ability to work with hand and power tools typically used by carpenters.
  • Maintain a clean worksite.
  • Work well in a respectful, safe team environment while having fun.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2 years’ experience in the carpentry industry will be considered an asset and result in higher wages.
  • Certification through various industry programs offered by University of Manitoba, Red River College, etc. will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend job planners and blueprints specific to decks and structures.
  • Organizational skills required to understand project site job progression.
  • Ability to work with computers, tablets and smart phones to utilize cloud-based software.
  • Math required to set grades, calculate slop, quantify materials, estimate materials.
  • A valid class 5 drivers license with a vehicle is required.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership qualities.
  • Strong work ethic with a “go getter” type attitude.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Self-motivated attitude to drive worksite efficiency.
  • Ability to follow proper safety protocols.
