Assistant Controller
Overview
Our client is a Winnipeg based organization that has been a leading pioneer in the recycling and sustainability field. Known for their conceptualization, design and delivery of complex programs, our team is excited to assist in the search for an Assistant Controller to join their growing Finance team.
This position will work closely with the Controller and Finance team to ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial information. The Assistant Controller will drive the month end process through strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to support the team as required, and exceptional communication skills.
We’re looking for a driven self starter that has experience preparing month end journal entries and reconciliations, reviewing accounts payable/receivable, carrying out process review and improvement, fostering a strong control environment.

Responsibilities
- Day Prepare/ review with the finance team as required to ensure accurate & timely presentation of monthly financial statements, this may include:
- month end journal entries & reconciliations, including (but not limited to)
- Prepaid expenses
- Capital Assets
- Inventory
- Accruals
- Banking entries
- Other reporting and preparation as required
- variance analysis
- month end journal entries & reconciliations, including (but not limited to)
- Develop, enhance, and create process efficiencies
- Day to day management and leadership of one direct report
- Contribute to the training, growth, and retention of direct reports
- Other tasks may include:
- support of the year-end audit, ensuring accuracy of information and providing necessary information to auditors
- Assist with various government mandated remittances and reports, including GST/PST/HST, Statistics Canada reporting, etc.
- Other duties/projects as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
- 3-5+ years of progressive finance/accounting experience.
- A post-secondary education or diploma in accounting.
- CPA designation would be an asset.
- Demonstrated analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
- Proficient in MS Office suite. (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
- Strong presentation, reporting, verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven experience leading a team and preparing timely financial information.
- Strong organization skills with the ability to handle multiple concurrent responsibilities.
- Growth mindset, with an ability to view problems from multiple perspectives.
- Public accounting experience is preferred.
- Experience with Sage 300 would be considered an asset.
