The Federal Government recently announced changes to existing COVID-relief programs for businesses.  Please see below for the changes:

Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS):

  • Extended to September 25th, however the subsidy rate will gradually decrease beginning on July 4th.
  • Program to eventually be replaced with a new Canada Recovery Hiring Program, which is proposed to span from June to November.  This program’s goal is to encourage corporations, charities, non—profits and others to hire new or previously-laid-off workers as the economy rebounds.   We will provide more details on this program at a later date.

Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS):

  • Extended to September 25th, but like CEWS support will gradually decrease. More details to follow as they are released by CRA.

Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA):

  • The government recently extended the application deadline for the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) to June 30, given the continued financial strain of the pandemic. The budget proposes to do the same for the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund and the Indigenous Business Initiative.
